If you want to apply for a PhD scholarship/fellowship at Arts but you are not sure if you should apply for 4+4 or 5+3 you can get your non-Danish qualifications assessed by the Danish Agency for Science and Higher Education.

Assessment of non-Danish degrees
Please note that the Danish Agency for Higher Education and Science is in the process of changing the assessments of non-Danish degrees from specific countries due to a change in the Danish Master’s degree programmes.
As an example, a one‑year Master’s degree from England, which was previously assessed as equivalent to the first year of a Danish two‑year Master’s programme, will henceforth be regarded as fully equivalent to a Danish Master’s degree. Consequently, applicants holding a one‑year Master’s degree from England must now apply to the 5+3 scheme. These applicants can no longer apply to the 4+4 scheme, which entails simultaneous enrolment as both a Master’s student and a PhD student.

Green
The above degrees from India are assessed to be equivalent to a Danish Bachelor's degree plus one year of Master's studies. This means that you may apply for the 4-year PhD scholarship (4+4 scheme) but not the 3-year PhD fellowship (5+3 scheme).
Blue
The above degrees from India are assessed to be equivalent to a Danish Master's degree. This means that you may apply for the 3-year PhD fellowship (5+3 scheme). We must be able to see from your transcript of records that the Master's degree programme is incl. a final thesis/dissertation. Please make a note in the cover sheet.

The above degrees from Pakistan are assessed to be equivalent to a Danish Bachelor's degree plus one year of Master's studies. This means that you may apply for the 4-year PhD scholarship (4+4 scheme) but not the 3-year PhD fellowship (5+3 scheme).
Only if you have a 4-year Bachelor's degree + a 2-year Master's degree which includes a final dissertation then you may apply for the 3-year PhD fellowship (5+3 scheme). We must be able to see from your transcript of records that the Master's degree programme is incl. a final thesis/dissertation. Please make a note in the cover sheet.

4+4 scheme
A 1-year Master's degree is assessed to be on the same level as one year of Master's study in Denmark.
5+3 scheme
A 2-year Master's degree with a sufficient thesis is assessed to be on the same level as a Danish Master's degree.
Admission to the PhD degree programme (5+3 scheme) is based on an individual academic assessment of the applicant's qualifications.
If the applicant applies with qualifications corresponding to less than a Danish Master's degree of 120 ECTS credits, admission may be made conditional upon the applicant first completing a salaried research preparatory programme (“forskningsforberedende forløb“) of up to 45 ECTS credits.
